Ground source heat pumps utilise the heat stored in the earth providing a constant source of naturally renewed energy. Just a short distance below ground, there is a fairly constant average temperature that represents a reserve of low-grade heat waiting to be tapped. Air to water heat pumps use outside air that is heated by the sun, which eliminates the requirement for bore holes or ground coils. Air source heat pumps reduce the comparative installation time and costs.

A heat pump operates most efficiently when the temperature difference between the heat source and the heat demand is smallest. For that reason they are most suited to powering under floor heating systems which typically run at lower temperatures.

Solar water heating uses a solar collector, usually positioned on the roof of the property. Solar collectors work by transferring heat into fluid that is circulated to a solar coil in the hot water cylinder.
